How does hepatitis A affect a fetus?

Question:
My Nanna had hep A while she was pregnant with my mum. My mum, sister and I all have Gilberts syndrome. Could this be as a result of my Nanna having hep A whilst pregnant with my mum or is it just genetic. Was the virus past to my mum and could she have past it to my sister and I?

Answers:
Gilbert's syndrome is caused by an abnormal gene that helps break down bilirubin.

To answer your initial question about the affects of hep A on a fetus, it's associated with gestational complications, such as placental separation, and with preterm labor.
My daughter has Hep and she's also had five kids with no ill effects, that's not to say it can't be passed on. This is something for the doctor to explain to you.
So many things could affect this answer. I know others that have the same problem and have had children with no ill affects.
Hepatitis A cannot be passed down to a fetus. Gibert's syndrome is genetic and it is an entirerly different condition.
Yes, it must have affeced your Nannas' Liver. Any fetus generally have the generic map like a photostat of their parents. So it reflected in your mum and you too. You may also transmit the same to your children.
