Heart flutters? Anxiety?

You are so young, sweetie. Why do you worry yourself like this. I also have had to deal with anxiety. I would go to the ER with shortness of breath and heart palpitations. I was convinced that I had a heart condition, and that I was having asthma attacks. I was so scared I was going to die. By the way, I was about 18 when this started. The doctors even put me on inhalers, and had me have regular cardiology visits, so this added more to my anxiety because I thought I was right.
My mom is a nurse, too, and I had her convinced that something was wrong with me, too. It wasn't until about a year ago that I was diagnosed with GAD- oh and I'm 28 right now.
I don't want to take meds so I did research on anxiety- a lot of it. I have learned that anxiety is really just a fear of the unknown- usually an irrational fear. When you are having the panic attacks- you are giving yourself over to the fear. Dealing with fear and anxiety is just a matter of teaching yourself that the things you fear are unreal- your heart is not going to stop causing you to drop dead, you don't have an anyeurism, you aren't having an asthma attack, you don't have cancer (these are some of the things that I would deal with)
You have to tell yourself that you are ok, and calm yourself down. You will probably be told this by many people, but exercise is a great way to deal with stress because it helps you burn off all that extra energy.
Oh man, I could go on and on about this because I've dealt with it for almost 10 years, but I'm sure that you don't want to sit and read and read. But my advice to you is you definitely need to talk to someone. and maybe try meds until you can teach yourself how to talk yourself down from the anxiety and deal with it a little more. I wouldn't advise staying on them permanently, but that is just me.
By the way, I am doing so much better these past few months after teaching myself how to deal with it. and I am so much more happier. But don't let people tell you that you are weird or something is wrong with you, or that you are not normal. So many people suffer from anxiety, it almost seems not normal not have it. But you really need to talk to someone that can help you address it really soon, because you are too young to hav to suffer like this. Don't let 10 years pass you by before you decide to address it.
Good luck too you, and I truly to wish you the best of luck and health..
I wonder if it is the same thing I experience. I get these fluttery feelings in my heart too.I describe it as it feels like my heart is beating in jello. I know it sounds weird but if you feel it too, then you know what I mean. It's SCARY!! I had a lot of episodes when I was pregnant and my doctor put me on a heart monitor for 24 hours. When he looked at the results, he said my heart was beating faster during those times. (I kept a diary during the 24 hours of when I felt it and he compared it to the monitor's readings) He said that I was anxious too. He said I was okay though and told me to quit worrying so much. I started taking time out during the day when the stress got too much to just relax. Even a few minutes helps! It worked...I hardly ever feel it any more. Maybe only 2 times in the last year.
I found that reading calms me down...maybe whenever you feel it you could go into your room and read for a few minutes until it passes. I don't think you can do anything to just make it stop immediately, I think you just have to take a deep breath and wait for it to pass. Reading will take your mind off of it.
I would see a doctor to get a professional opinion.
I've dealt with many bouts of anxiety - I had a very stressful job, and before that school that caused me a lot of stress. I had anxiety attacks, and had to see a doctor about them.
Exercise - walking and yoga - is what eventually seemed to help me the most.
I'm 35, and was diagnosed with GAD 7 years ago. After trying two other meds, i began taking Paxil, which has been wonderful, and I've been on it for 6 years now. I almost never have the anxiety, and am much better about dealing with upsetting situations. I do occassionally have anxiety in spite of the medication--such as before a big test or in a nasty situation--and I have Klonapin to take for these occassions (it's a fast acting mild sedative).
I know that your mom is a qualified professional, but sometimes a relative can't look at someone they love and be objective. I would see another doctor about this, discuss the situation, and see if they recommend medication.
I'm not huge on herbal remedies, but in the meantime something that might help is called Bach's Rescue Remedy. It's an infusion of dandelion, and can help calm the nerves (I think I had to get mine at the health store, but the vitamin aisle at the grocery store might have it). I hope this helps!
I went through this too. My doctors didn't really help. I started doing breathing exercises before bed time. This helped a little, but I found that I would lay there and wait for it to happen and that made it worse, so then I started focusing on other things like a picture or a song or even watching t.v. Anything so I didn't think about it. Good Luck.
i have also been having these every so often i stop breathing sometimes it can be scary u need to get it chaecked.
I get this with my anxiety but I also get it with my Mitral Valve Prolapse. Sometimes it's hard to tell. I've just learned to live with it.
ive had them off and on.however not all are normal.some can be serious.please ask your mom to have them checked out.shes the boss.
