It varies depending on weight, intake and exercise/activity.
The normal starting dose is 1 unit per kilogram of body weight per day. To get kilograms, divide pounds by 2.2. By this formula, 68 units would be appropriate for a 159 pound person. Adjustments are made from there depending on blood sugar results.
I am a type 2, on insulin since Dec. I am now up to100 units per day and fast acting in between if I need it.
i am on a sliding scale with my humalog. i take a shot of 2 units for every number over 140. so if its 146 i take 3 units and at night i am on lantus which i take 25 units once per nite. i know u dad feels like a pin cushion but it will get better and see if they can supplement the shots with pills on top of the insulin. i take glucotral 10 mg once a day and actos 30 mgs 1 a day on top of some other meds. also watch out for neuropathy of the feet and legs. this is a nerve condition that hurts and burn in the feet and legs and can lose sensation over time so make sure his doctor checks his feet and legs at every appointment. good luck and god bless...
the amount of insulin used by diabetics always varies between ppl
it depends on how much insulin is naturally bein produced by the pancreas, if little is bein produced more is needed to be injected nd vice versa.
From wat i can see this seems a fairly normal dosage but do not underestimate the condition it needs 2 b treated wi respect nd u need 2 b strict on any1 hu has the condition 2 do exactly wat they shld b doin

it really depends on what you eat and your blood sugar levels i take any where from 3-20 units a day.
I'm a type 1 (have been for over 14years) and I take 16units of Lantus and about 18 units of my rapid-acting insulin; which totals to about 34 units a day. I guess that's pretty low but you have to consider that I workout 5 times a week, so that helps my insulin sensitivity a lot.
This is v different between type 1s and 2s - for type 1s the docs go by about 1 unit / kg that you weigh - so if you weigh 68kg your daily dose will prob be around 68 units - but that's just a rough guide and it varys according to lifestyle etc. etc. If you use an insulin pump it's a bit less because the insulin is absorbed better - i think it's meant to be something like 0.7 units/kg but i can't remember! i use a pump and take around 50 units/day xx
There is no real answer to this, as it varies greatly, but i take 10 units fast acting morning, 10 units fast acting afternoon, 10 units fast acting evening and 30 units slow acting night time.
Different insulin's act differently, so this will not be the same for everyone.
Often, when you are first diagnosed, you have a honeymoon period, where you need very little insulin. When i was first diagnosed, i only needed about 2 units because my body was adjusting to being diabetic.

Well really it all depends on how much you eat. I am on the pump, it automatically gives me 28 units a day, then I must enter in my blood sugars and the amount of carbs that I eat and it calculates it out and gives me how much ever I need to keep a good blood sugar. Some days I only take about 50 units and some days I take 120 unit. You just never know it all depends on your blood sugars and how much you eat.
