its a chronic inflammatory disease that affects your bowels it causes ulcers to form in all layers of the intestines it can happen in any part of the gastrointestinal tract from mouth to anus
Several theories exist about what causes Crohn’s disease, but none have been proven. The human immune system is made from cells and different proteins that protect people from infection. The most popular theory is that the body’s immune system reacts abnormally in people with Crohn’s disease, mistaking bacteria, foods, and other substances for being foreign. The immune system’s response is to attack these “invaders.” During this process, white blood cells accumulate in the lining of the intestines, producing chronic inflammation, which leads to ulcerations and bowel injury.
it is a problem with your intestines and digestive system. Its symptoms are severe cramping, bloating, abdominal pain and diarrhea..get to a nutritionist that follows some of the guidelines taught by Dr. Mercola (www.mercola.com) Also, check out the book, . . . The Maker's Diet, by Dr. Jordan Rubin. And finally, get to a principled family chiropractor.good luck and God bless.

Crohn's disease: A chronic inflammatory disease, primarily involving the small and large intestine, but which can affect other parts of the digestive system as well.

My uncle died of this disease, it is very treatable, but only if you look after yourself, and he didn't.
Hi Darren, Crohn's disease are ulcers that form in your small intestine, doctors give you pentaza tablets to help to calm the ulcers down. It has been compared to a mild form of cancer as the ulcers eat away at your intestine and you may have to get part of it removed.

Hope this is easy for you to understand. My 20 year old daughter is a sufferer. So I know what im talking about.
hi, I've had crohns disease ,dxed at age 12, for 27 yrs.
Crohns is an inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) that affects anywhere from the mouth, esophagus, stomach, small intestines, large intestines, rectum & anus . Symptoms can be mild to severe ranging from fever, fatigue, abdominal pain, diarrhea or constipation, joint pain, bleeding from below, nausea/vomiting, bowel obstructions, abscesses or fistulas in the GI tract, ulcers on the esophagus which are sore when you swallow (I've had them), as well as side effects caused by medications which are monitored by the MD. When that happens, treatment is stopped.

People can lead normal lives with this disease provided that they take their medications correctly, go to the MD, eat right, exercise, & don't smoke or drink b/c it can interefere w/the medical treatment.

The Crohns & Colitis Foundation of America (CCFA) has a website where you can learn more about IBD, the medical terms that go with it, the latest treatments, surgery, diet, exercise, dating tips, coping skills, and you can find a local support group to meet others who have IBD. Your friend should look into it so he won't feel alone. Family & friends are encouraged to attend as well to educate themselves.

They have a toll free number manned by professionals M-F 9 am - 5 pm (EST) where you can call & ask questions.

There are some famous ppl with Crohns: mike mccready from pearl jam, shannon dorhety, Dwight Eisenhower, anastacia, mary ann mobley, to name a few.

hope this helps.
its an inflammatory bowel disease, not life threatening in itself but if u have it do have increased risk of bowel cancer. it usually has active and inactive phases but my daughter who has had it since age 12 (now 23) rarely has relief from it. treatment for a flare up is steroids, prednisolone. she also takes two preventative medications pentasa and azathioprine, although they dont seem to do much she doesnt want to stop taking them in case its actually worse without them. if a particular section of bowel becomes too inflamed then it has to be removed. my daughter has had two bowel ops and in the worst cases a colostomy is the only way to get relief. its nasty but u have to try to not let it rule or ruin yr life. hope this helps a bit.
