Intestinal infection?

Question:
does anyone know how long it takes to go away with antibiotics? or at least start feeling normal again

Answers:
It depends on what caused the infection to begin with and how sick you actually got. Antibiotics kill all the bacteria in the intestines, bad and good. Normally antibiotics are effective within 24 hours of the first dose, and it ordinarily takes up to three days to get the full benefit. A gut that has been infected then has to recover and build up the flora of normal and beneficial bacteria again before it functions normally. Usually the doctors advise you to stick to a bland diet and avoid dairy products for the time you are on antibiotics and sometimes do a 24 hour liquid only diet so the gut can rest. After that, you start eating things like banans, rice, apples/applesauce and white bread. The third day you eat bland stuff, and take care to avoid fats and grease. Then you can start helping to replace the normal good bacteria by eating a carton of live culture yogurt, at least a carton a day for a couple days, and after that you can start eating dairy products again. An intestinal virus or bacteria usually takes a good week to fully recover from, although you usually start feeling more human again after 3-4 days. Just give your innards a rest, they can handle things from there.
