Anyone who has to have surgery is usually scared and if they're not they're lying.
I know entering highschool is challenging enough without having limitations or restrictions, but we are talking about your spinal cord.
You are young and young people heal much quicker than older people. Be glad that they caught this problem before more serious damage was done.
Crying is a normal reaction to health related problems. It is OK to cry, but you need to remind yourself how important this operation is to the rest of your life beyond highschool.
If you are really upset, you should ask your doctor to see a therapist who can help talk you through your fears.
Good luck with everything and remember...if someone picks on you in highschool you have a crutch to hit them with! Just kidding :) violence is never the answer....tempting, but in most cases not right!
Anyone your age and diagnosed for that type of surgery should get a second opinion. Probably cost you less than a 100.00--Ask your current doctors office for your xrays---they are required to give them to you---get your family doctor to give you a referall for another consultation with another MD---That way many of your fears will be relieved.
Obviously you might not need the surgery and this will give you some basis for your decision. Goodluck
