Propanalol side effects ,allergy ,dosage for MVP?
Question:
i was on propanalol treatment because of irregular heartbeats and MVP,doctor gave me 40 mg(half in the morning/half at night).after 3 days i started having a terrible vertigo and dizzyness which i never had before,i lowered the dosage but i still felt dizzy.doctor told me it can't be the side effect of the medicine but i'm sure it's related to propanalol.i want to know if you have had any allergy to this medicine like: lightheadness, dizzyness or vertigo which are rare.
i know enough scientific stuff about propanalol and i know what it's used for.
what i want to know is the practical knowledge and the right dosage in people who have experienced it for Mitral Valve Prolapse balancing heart rhythm.
and please tell me the dosage you take and any other information which you know about propanalol.
thank you very much for your answers! :)

It sounds like you're experiencing "orthostatic hypotension", which is a big fancy name but it's a pretty common side effect in people who just started taking blood pressure meds. Usually people experience it when they're changing positions, like getting out of bed in the morning or standing up from a chair. It's caused from a sudden drop in blood pressure that occurs from the position change, and like I said it happened alot to the patients on the cardiac floor I worked on. I don't know why your doctor would have said it couldn't have been the medicine. If you have a b/p checker at home, you can do what we did as nurses to monitor for this: take your b/p while lying down (like before you get up in the morning), sit on the edge of the bed and take it, stand up and take it. If you notice that it drops with each check, that's orthostatic hypotension. Usually the physician lowered the dosage or sometimes tried another medication. There's lots of different meds used for irregular heart rates and the newer ones have fewer side effects. As a nurse, I couldn't tell you about dosaging, it's out of my scope of practice. I hope what I do know helped somehow. God bless and good luck!
What is your Blood pressure. Since Propranalol is a beta-blocker it could be lowering your BP causing your dizziness etc. I think it is very likely that the side effects you are experiencing are due to the propranolol. If your cardiologist won't accept this you need to see someone with some common sense.
This would not be classified as an allergy, even if it is attributed to the propranolol. An allergy is an abnormal reaction by the immune system (itching, hives, respiratory inflammation...), where this would be categorized as an adverse effect.
