Health ask::: urgent, give a hand please?
Answers: Shingles is Herpes zoster and is cause by the same varicella-zoster virus that cause chicken pox. Once you've had chicken pox, the virus is contained by your system for life and remains dormant within most of us. It likes to "hide" surrounded by nerve tissue. However, some conditions, such as great stress, can reactivate the virus. When awakened, it manifest as Herpes zoster...shingles. The outbreaks are typically on side of the body (unilateral).
The varicella-zoster virus can be transmitted during an outbreak to anyone who hasn't already been exposed to the virus (had chicken pox) or hasn't be vaccinated against it. Your kids are covered. Are you? If transmitted to someone who hasn't already chicken pox, that being will develop chicken pox, not H. zoster.
During an outbreak, use Standard and Contact Precautions until the lesions are crusted over. No Airborne precautions are critical. As long as the lesions are kept loosely covered by clothing and both Standard and Contact Precautions are observed during outbreaks, within should be no problem. Shingles DOES go away, but it take a while. Did they put him on antiviral medications? I would suggest that. Also, own your children had the chickenpox vaccine?? they could gain chicken pox from exposure to shingles. Here's some more info:

first thing to know is that if the blisters pop DO NOT capture it in the eyes, it can incentive vision loss. second, if your children havent have chicken pox yet and they enjoy contact with their father consequently it is likely they will develop chicken pox. so keep hold of an eye out for little red super itchy bumps that start on the trunk of the body and move to the outer limbs. eventually he will dry up and not be contagious anymore. i also hear at work that shingles can be airborne. but i think they are crazy
