Do you think I'm allergic to alcohol?

Question:
Whenever I drink I get sick later that night. The thing is, I don't drink that much. I can have one or two beers and not even get drunk then hours later wake up and throw up a couple times throughout the night, its horrible and i dont understand why it happens. When I drink Smirnoff my chest gets tight but i can still breathe, i just take deeper breaths. I dont get a red face or break out in spots or anything, but can i be allergic to alcohol?

Answers:
Yes its possible to be allergic to alcohol.. if so, you're probably also allergic to molds, mushrooms, and yeasts. This may also include penicillin.

Its also possible that you're only allergic to what is in the alcohol. Beer usually has yeast, wheat, barley and hops.. sometimes others things like corn. Smirnoff and the chest tightening.. that is a little scarier. Do you take your smirnoff straight or do you mix it? Smirnoff, i'm not exactly sure what source it is (some kind of grain) but it'll have less yeast remaining in it than beer.

I would advise you to stop drinking for now and go see an allergist to get some answers.

Allergic reactions don't always cause hives or break outs. Many people have had their throat close without having any breakouts. Most often reactions are chest congestion/tightness, nasal congestion, sneezing, watery eyes, sleepiness, confusion, dizziness, etc. Food (ingestion) allergies can also cause repetitive puking (btw so can alcohol on an empty stomach with an ulcer).

I wouldn't recommend taking an antihistamine and then drinking as it is really easy to get alcohol poisoning if you do.

Go see your doctor.
You are definitely allergic. You need to completely avoid it just as you do for any other allergies.
You absolutely can be allergic to alcohol and what you are describing is an allergic reaction. So I have an easy solution for you - don't drink! You have many alternatives to drinking alcohol. So long as you're drinking something at a party, no one, save an alcoholic really cares what you're drinking so long as you're drinking something and having a good time. I don't drink and haven't drank since 1986, but I'm also a recovering alcoholic and addict. But I can still be comfortable in any social situation without needing to take a drink.
Sounds like it. Maybe you should just stick to the non alcoholic drinks from now on. You honestly don't need alcohol to have fun. Your health is more important. :-)
you could! if you do not have a problem with alcohol, just stop drinking! if you are not an alcoholic you will not miss the alcohol!
