I have skin cancer, how do I deal with the "fear" part of it?
Question:
Answers:
Chemo is very scary to the person who has to "look forward to it".
I had chemo for a different illness, but it was exhausting, and emotionally draining, I won't lie about it. It was bearable, but I think you begin to re-prioritize while going through it. I think it changes how you look at things, But that's okay. it's okay to appreciate things you didn't before, and let go of worries that don't really exist.
Take someone with you who can be strong, who can help take care of you, because you can't be strong all the time, and that is okay too.
Popsicles, and plenty of fluids, I stuck to lemonade crystal light, and now, seven years later I still can not drink it because when I taste it, I taste chemo.keep that in mind, and also baby food..it is broken down food, and even if you get sick after eating it, you are sure to have gotten SOME nutrients...anything to keep up your strength, along with pedialite in ice cube trays, not their own frozen things...too much at one time...do the ice cubes...be creative.
It's okay to be afraid. I would wonder about you if you were not. the prospect of chemo is not easy, but it can be "bearable"..I will pray for you, and hope I helped more than scared..
If you have to take an "immunotherapy" type drug such as BCG, it's not really so bad. You have flu symptoms and feel wiped out for a day or so, but it is not usually long term. Have you actually found out about what kind of drug they might be treating you with? If you want to just get good general information on your kind of cancer and the different treatments for it, go out to the American Cancer Society website or call them. I did, and it was a tremendous help! One way you can fight being scared is to gain as much knowledge about your skin cancer and treatments as possible. I wish you good health as you begin your journey.
It's okay, even if you do get chemo, it will fix you.
Despite the fact that you will be sick for a while, you'll end up being fine.
You won't regret doing it, and you will be cancer free.
