Please help urgent? family member terminal, cancer? hospital not sure i will give all details possible, SOS?

Question:
Hi, my partner's Pop has been in hospital for the last 7 days. 4 weeks ago he was in fine health for his age and his strong healthy body and eyes showed that. About 2 weeks ago he had a fall and hit his head and neck. Since then he has developed a lump on the back of his neck - (which as he had cancer of the mouth and had most of his tongue cut out 15yrs ago) the Drs and nurses at hospital say he is terminal despite not knowing what is wrong. They have run few tests and are not doing what I believe to be enough for his rapidly deteriorating condition, they say they dont know if he has broken his neck or what. The family has told me he is having rapd changes in conditions - for instance yesterday morning he was walking around wth clear eyes, when I saw him in the evening he was mentally aware, stubborn wanting to get up without help, but had no strength in legs, his eyes were all glassed over, has developed'some sort'of infection since beingthereand lostsomuchweightnotfeedsalined...

Answers:
HolySH**!!!! get the man to another hospital.
GTFO off the internet and go be with your family.
It sounds like possibly the cancer has come back, But the hospital should have told you . Ask his Dr . point blank what is happening to him.
It is hard to speculate without knowing the situation first hand. But from the description you give it sounds like the family is guessing that he has had a reoccurence of cancer? Yet that is not what his doctor is saying? Or perhaps this is what his doctor suspects but cannot verifty through tests?

Cancer is deceptive and the fact that this man was in fine health and had a strong body really does not make that much difference. Most patients with cancer never have any symptoms of the disease until it is very advanced and that description fits this patient.

If this mans condition is deteoriating a definitive diagnosis may not make any difference in his condition. In other words if this is cancer (perhaps the cancer has weakened the vertebrae in his neck? But a CT or MRI would show that) it is indeed possible for his condition to detoriate this fast. Cancer treatment at this point may only be palliative (they will treat the symptoms and make him comfortable). If this is cancer, it is also possible for him to seem alert one minute and not the next. It is often difficult for families to realize how quickly cancer can overtake the body. They want a doctor to 'do something' but when a cancer is very advanced there may be little a doctor can do to slow that progression down. So, to a family it seems like no one cares and no one is 'doing anything'. But at this point and at his age and detoriating condition there may not be anything a human being can do. If the patient is of sound mind than he can direct his own health care and you should be taking your lead from what he wants to do from this point forward.

Cancer is a deceptive disease where a patient can seem alert and healthy but still have a hidden tumor that can suddely grow enough in a few weeks to kill them. Cancer is a disease where the cells grow rapidly, and in some aggressive cancers a tumor can double in four to six weeks. In advanced cancer tumors come in all sizes and if some are wrapped around vital organs or blood vessels they are usually not operable. It is really hard to know what is going on here. But is it possible that the medical staff are experienced enough to know that this is metastatic cancer and there is not much that they can do to stop the progression of the disease. If this is end stage metastatic cancer than running tests or giving therapy may be more invasive than just treating this mans symptoms.

Still, if the patient and family is not satisfied with his treatment than you should seek out a second opinion. Find a doctor that you can trust. After a discussion it may be in the best interests and wishes of the patient to be released into hospice care. That way he can go home, still be comfortable, and be around his family and friends as long as possible.

But, it is hard to say just based on what information you've given. Get a second opinion or even a third until you are satisfied that all is being done that is possible at this point.
So sorry to hear this, do try to have him checked by another specialiast or treated at a different hospital if he can stand the moving.

I can only imagine the pain and suffering this kind of situation is causing you, I will say a little prayer for him and hope for the best.

Good luck and god bless.
ther is no reason they cant do tests to find out if his neck is broken or not they can do tests. if the poor man has cancer then it sounds like it has spread thru him . my mom had liver cancer and she had some similar symptoms. im sorry to say shes gone now. it sounds like they can do no more to help him dear. im so sorry. like i said my mom had some similar symptoms and we lost her. there is days the person will be ok then other days they are not. if you beleive in GOD please put him in gods capable hands. he is suffering.
