Answers:
i have an irregular heartbeat and mine goes very fast sometimes..it has got up to 150..mine is not from any heart disease..its just anxiety..i just started taking atenolol which is a beat blocker..which slows my heart rate down..ive only took three of the pills so far..kinda worries me b/c it also is used to lower blood pressure..so obv. its also lowering my blood pressure..but there is other beat blockers out there as well..my heart usually goes fast for about 4 minutes then stops.
It sounds like MVP mitral valve prolapse it is you flippers in your heart dont open and shut like they should and forgive me I cant think the name of them, anyway there is a medication for this toprol xl It will help,My son has it and he has layed all his caffine drinks down cause it tends to make it worse but by doing that he has came off his meds and hes doing fine now ,he still has them spells every once in a blue moon but he was having them everyday several times a day. Go to the Dr.
Assuming you're not taking any kind of stimulant drugs, (Cocaine, Amphetamines, Caffeine, Nicotine) Many factors come into consideration. Your age, weight, height, B.M.I. (body mass index), diet, lifestyle, stress factors. I don't believe prescription or non-prescription drugs should be taken at all. All they do is get rid of the symptom. They do not treat the cause of the problem. Find the cause and you will find the problem.

A normal heart at rest should beat at 70 bpm (males) and 75 bpm (females)

Healthy lifestyle tips:

1.) eat healthy (preferably raw/organic foods)
2.) exercise, (long walks are very good exercise) the human body was designed to walk.
3.) reduce stress, stress is the silent killer.
4.) think positive, negative thoughts increase stress. nobody likes a negative person.
5.) be nice to others, perform random acts of kindness. remember, what goes around comes around!

You COULD have mitral valve prolapse.

Or you could just be sensitive to caffeine. Or, out of shape, and need to exercise more. Or, have a problem with the electrical conduction of your heart.

You need to consider several things. When your heart rate is fast, how fast is it? Is there a sensation or other side effects with it, like dizziness, nausea, vertigo, chest pain, trouble breathing, etc.? When/ if your heart rate is irregular, is it regularly irregular, or irregularly irregular? Meaning, is your heartbeat irregular but repeating the same pattern (regularly irregular -- beat, beat, beat, skip, beat, beat, beat, skip, beat,beat,beat,skip...) or do the skips occur randomly or does the timing between beats not measure out a nice event tempo? If you have SIDE EFFECTS at all, especially dizziness or vertigo, see a doctor pronto. If however your heart only seems to skip a beat every now and then, and there are no other side effects - just the sensation that your heart skipped a beat -- try cutting back on caffeine, or live with it. I have that condition, and I live with it (I'm not giving up my tea).
TReatment is beta-blockers... Someone mentioned Toprol that is a regular one. The irregular beat could be atrial fib. Which the other nurse sort of mentioned. There is no rhyme or reason to this beat. The regular missed beat is possibly a heart block. Not blockage as in a coronary artery, but a block in the electrical conduction. If you are young don't be anxious to be on meds. Try anything first to control it. The meds are toprol for the rapid beat and Digoxin for atrial fibrilation.
