Question:
It started a month and a half ago with a sore throat and swollen tonsils and i went to the doctor and he diagnosed me with strept throat, well I went on Antibiotics and 2 weeks later and nothing changed so they put me on stronger antibiotics, then a week and a half ago , my tonsils swelled up even worse(the entire month and a half I have had swollen tonsils) so I go to the Doctor and he says he thinks i have mono, but he did blood work and it came back negative. I've been tired and sore and my body aches...any ideas what else it could be, Im 20yrs old, female

Answers:
Has your doctor brought up the possibility of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome? I've heard of people having mono-like symptoms with it. Also, my mother had mono in her twenties and now is diagnosed with Fibromyalgia, so that could be something to look into also. I hope you can find a diagnosis and get well soon, best wishes.

Why are you asking us? Go to your doctor! He's paid to diagnose you. I mean, what if I said you had leprosy or something. It will just scare you.
My son had recurring strep throat over a period of a month or so and the doctor thought he might be re-infecting himself each time he started to get better by using items that might carry the germs, such as his toothbrush or a water bottle he keeps in the fridge and re-uses-- anything like that which you would use again, like stored food, water, make-up, chapstick--can carry the germs and make you sick again. The doctor said he should get a new toothbrush and start using it as soon as he got over the latest attack of sore throat.

I don't know if that was the reason he got better, but he did recover from the sore throat. So you might give that a try.

Have you also considered that you may be having an allergic reaction to some food?

I think in some cases, it's just necessary to have the tonsils removed. Maybe you should go to another doctor and get a second opinion. Doctors can make mistakes. I know from personal experience in a bad way.
