get their hair thinned... it won't get rid of it it's just easier to get rid of when they do get it
Their mother must be really negligent if this is a continuing problem. It takes more than shampoo to get rid of lice; if they're on your head, they're in your house.
Using a nit comb everyday will certainly help as lice have now become immune to many of today's shampoos. Put conditioner in their hair first to loosen the "glue" that nits attach themselves to hair with. Then patiently comb it out. Make sure you are also looking for eggs as they will hatch into more nits if they are left on the scalp. A metal nit comb is the best comb as plastic ones often have trouble pulling the nits off the hair and bend the comb tines instead. Blowdrying the hair will do nothing as the nits are attached to the hair not just sitting on it. I am afraid Roguewafer is right though, her house may need more attention then the children. All clothes, blankets, bedding (including pillows) and towels must be washed and dried in hot water to rid you of the lice which can live up to 3 days off a host (person). If you can not wash a certain item such as a pillow you can place it in a plastic bag and seal it for 4 days to make sure any lice which were transfered to the item have perished. Please be sure to practice this after each of their visits as well or its only a matter of time before your children get them and then transfer them to the items in your home. Good Luck :)
Buy a really good metal nit comb (licenders, terminator, licemeister) and comb thru their hair, strand by strand using a thick conditioner. usually it takes about two hours to do a thorough comb out. also watch the comb out video- www.headlice.org
