Why are Africans/African Americans more susceptible to sickle-cell anemia than caucasions?
Question:
Answers:
Sickle-cell anemia is genetic disease. African Americans are more likely to carry the genes responsible for sickle cell anemia.
It is not just African Americans, it is any race of people that lived near the Mediterranean. If you are a carrier of sickle cell, it makes you impervious to Malaria. Unfortunately, if two carriers have a child, that child has a 25% chance of having both alleles for sickle cell which will make the child sick.
