If I don't go to the doctor it does not leave and they usually give me antibiotics. Why would a person get sore throats so often, otherwise I am generally healthy.

You may need a humidifier, The dryness in the air can irritate your throat. Or you may need to get your tonsils out.
maybe its the air thats around u when u work or if u go someplace every month which makes ur throat go bad.
Try not to take antibiotics all the time. Do you smoke?
