What effects do chemo have?

Question:
On the brain. Because my memory has been absolutely shot recently, kinda like Momento, I have problems making new memories and stuff.

But I also have problems remembering things from a while ago too. I can remember people and faces and stuff, but information and conversations disappear rather quickly.

Is this from the chemo? Or is it something else.

PS: I have AML and have just finished my second round of chemotherapy.

Answers:
Many cancer patients joke around and call what you describe as 'Chemobrain'. It may be the result of taking all the medications combined . . not only chemotherapy but anti-nausea meds too. In the majority of people the fog will eventually lift once the chemo and other meds stop. If chemobrain persists there is a treatment that may be used that seems to be helping patients. It is similar to meds used to treat attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and has improved the after effects caused by chemobrain.

I had leukemia when i was10 i am 11 and still taking chemo treatment at the childrens hospital od philedelpia. Chemo can make your bones hurt. can make you feel sick to your stomace to the point that you throw up. one type of chemo that i took called vincristine made my knees give out on me all of a sudden. Vincristine can also cause very painful sores to form in your mouth. chem makes you not feel hungry at all. I allmost had to go on a feeding tube. Ichemo made me very tired at times. Chemo can also cause warts to form any where on your body. as you probaly kbow chemo makes you lose your hair including your eyebrows. and that all the effects i know about and have exspericed. I hope this helped. And god bless you and let you get well like me. :-)
i also had severe memory problems while under going chemo and in my case 2 years after i finished my treatments I still have a horrible memory whereas before i could remember anything and i mean anything..the worse is with spelling and words half the time i cant think of the word i want to say or how it is spelled if im writing it
the only side effect that returned to normal quickly was the hair loss within a few months of finishing chemo i had a full head of thick curly hair..althou it did come in grey at first it settled at blonde..before chemo it was mousy straight and brown
the memory problem can be very frustrating but what bothers me the most is that i am still experiencing the bone pain..docs say it is in my head..but every other person i talked to says thaty have it also
