Three of my five kids have lice! Can't seem to get rid of them?

i remember going through the same thing when my older two were in day care. day care never cleaned the cots and all the kids were infested repeatedly. i used to just cut out the nits, one strand at a time. took forever, they both had hair past their butts, and the younger girl had blonde hair...same color of the nits. make sure you use bleach and water on the inside of your car, the toys and bedding and carpets..etc...
my little one had lice last year and i just couldn't get rid of it. i used rid, but you can only use that once because the chemicals get into the blood stream...so be careful how often use use these products. what worked for us was i slathered her hair in MAYONNAISE!! completely natural, nothing in her blood stream. i did that then put a shower cap on her and left it on two hours. all those little buggers smothered. good luck!
Never heard about sandboxes. Lice are spread person to person, and can hide in things like hairbrushes and pillows for a long time.
The most ancient remedy is to shave the head. A very cheap remedy is to wash the head with kerosene, which stinks like hell and takes days to fade away, but it works.
You need to kill all the nits and lice in your laundry with strong things like bleach and high temperatures in the drier.
Lice are a serious problem. Losing hair is not. I strongly recommend shaving their heads. Their hair will grow back really fast.
get some remover from the chemist and do all the familys hair ,follow the instructions and then comb out all the dead nits with a fine toothcomb , to prevent further infestion use conditioner on the hair by combing it with a comb with conditioner applied to it,as headlice cannot cling to the slippery stuff.
I don't know about the sandbox but I do know you will have a heck of a time getting rid of them unless you get the prescription stuff from the Dr. And make sure you wash all bedding clothes towels combs brushes EVERTHING in hot water. And vacuum the upholstered funiture. Don't cut her hair! Really the prescription stuff works the best and my kids both survived it.
I understand your desire to try something unconventional (non -toxic). However I suggest you see your pediatrician or dermatologist. There are prescription remedies that work better than Rid/Nix. You also need to wash all bedding, clothes, towels, etc in very hot water or place them in sealed plastic bags for 1 week (or more) then wash them. Discard combs brushes and get new ones.
you could try to put mayo in their hair.
Make sure to wash everything to prevent further breakout
It's not enough to treat only the infected children. Every member of the household must be checked. You also have to wash the bed lines, towels ect in HOT water. There are sprays you can use on the furniture, beds ect. Take all stuffed animals ect away--put them in a garbage bag for at least 4 days. This will allow the lice to die. Shake or vacume them before giving them back to the children.
Clean the combs/brushes--and no sharing!!
There is a prescription medication available from the doctor. Give the over the counter products another try. Here is the trick. The lice have a protective ability where they close up when they get wet (with water). Do not wet the hair first! Apply the product to the dry hair. The lice will not close up and will absorb the treatment product. Alternate treatments between the Rid and the NIx because they work differently. Good luck.
