Doesn't it seem like the term Bi Polar showed up about the time our Government said we could not spank our kid

Question:
I swear to God, I never heard of such a disorder when I was raised. I personally think some quack is getting kick back from the drug companies to diagnose brats with this affliction just to sell drugs.

Answers:
My own beliefs are that the medical community is constantly inventing and re-inventing new diseases to create a pill for..Its a business and BIG. Maybe the largest in terms of lobbying (http://edrugsearch.com/edsblog/big-pharm...
Unruly and undisciplined children now have ADD and the other alphabet letter diseases. Women dont just have PMS, now they have PMDD and be darned sure they have a new drug for it. Stomach aches are now IBS and you need to be drugged for it. Its out of control. The Psychiatric field is the most insidious with its Gender identity disorder, passive-aggressive disorder, disorder of written expression and sexual disorders and of course its latest fad, the bi-polar disease.
Bipolar disorder is also known as "manic depression"...that term has been around for quite a while. A chemical imbalance is a chemical imbalance, no matter what one chooses to call it.

It's the ADD/ADHD I believe is more over- and mis-diagnosed...those are the kids people are more likely to want to spank.
The term bi-polar has been around for a long time but in these days of political correctness it is preferred to the term "manic depressive" which makes it sound as if the sufferer is mad. I think all the pc rubbish is pure madness.
I believe Bi Polar is a true disorder. What I think is that ADD/ADHD is over diagnosed and too many kids are drugged for being kids.
In general I believe that our nation is over-medicated. It is my belief that many disorders/imbalances can be managed by proper diet and exercise. This, of course, is not true of all disorders and of all people. My husband suffers from bipolar disorder. He is unmedicated now, but was much happier and nicer to be around when he was. His (my husband's) father as well as his brothers were diagnosed with the disorder as well in the early 90's and all of them have tried medications with varying levels of success. Two of his 5 brothers are medicated and seem to be doing quite well. I disagree with you on this one, through my own experiences I can say that I believe bipolar is a true disorder and, when diagnosed properly, medication can truly be a blessing for those dealing with it. As for ADD..
