Ear plugged...Can't hear no more from one ear?

Question: my husband been saying that he can't hear from one of his ear. It's been a month now and still can't hear from that ear. He went to see the doctor already. They said that his ear drum has flopped over and covered his ear and it might've been costed by his resent flu or cold.. and it should go away in a few days...But it's been about a month..Does anyone know what's going on..or what can cure it??
