Swollen feet and ankles?
Question:
I think that my whole body is a bit swollen at the mo, but most noticeable on my feet.
What could be causing it? Is it just the heat?
Do I need to worry about this?
Is there anything I can do to alleviate thte problem?
A bit about me:
I am female, early 40s, overweight but fit.
I swim every day.
I have been taking omeprazol for hiatus hernia for the last 8 years; no other meds.
Live in Spain, the temperature is quite high at the mo.
Never had this problem before, or any weight-related problems.
Answers:
try to elevate feet on a pillow, if swelling does not decrease then try to exercise your legs, it may be a problem in circulation, if you say that you think your whole body is swollen you probably have some other condition, why not go for a check up, is your urine output adequate enough? If you have pains in the swollen area, it also may be a local infection. Or do you remember tripping over or experiencing muscle strains or sprains. You may have problems in circulation, do you spend your time standing all the time? try to have rest periods but also have time to exercise your extremities especially your legs
Possibilities: arthritis (any pain)
Pregnancy
Heat
Its either Gout or arthritis. Lets hope for your sake its gout, as it can be controlled by what you eat and drink.
Heart disease and Kidney disease can cause (foot swelling) pedal edema.
Diagnostic tests that may be performed include the following:
* Blood tests such as a CBC or blood chemistry
* ECG
* Chest x-ray or extremity x-ray
* Urinalysis
I'd say go and have your blood pressure checked might be that or as you say could be the heat!!
Try to raise your feet when your resting.
Sounds like you are having a pretty rough time. My feet are a trouble to me all the time, mostly because they are numb and painful. They often swell thru lack of exercise or too much fluid retention. The trick is to balance the exercise, and rest. Also to be aware of what you eat and drink. Some foods and supplements can help with the fluid thing.
If you are unhappy and need pain relief on a constant basis, I would recommend a trip to the doc for a check.
