I have a two fold ? one is for any Paxil users, the other is for anyone with Narcolepsy...?

Question:
I take Paxil for Cataplexy (muscle weakness due to Narcolepsy) when I am sitting sill or laying down my muscles jerk alot. Sometimes it may bring a limb off the couch, make my upper lip curl, arch my back uncontrollably, etc. I can get up and walk around and sit down it continues when I sit down again. Anyone out ther with these types of jerks . I believe they are Myoclonic jerks. So is it the Paxil or Narcolepsy? They are more funny then a burden, just want info. Thanks.

Answers:
Working in the sleep field, I know that Narcolepsy will not cause jerks of that nature. I am educated on cataplexies and understand the reason why you are on paxil. As from a sleep perspective, I have seen quite a few patient that have taken SSRI's (Paxil, Zoloft) that have PLMS or RLS due to taken the drug. I don't know how long you have been taken the medicine but I would give it a month or so and if it continues then talk with your sleep doctor about alternative medications that can help with your cataplexies. There is a new drug (Xyrem) out that has been successful with cataplexies patient in our center. But before considering taking this drug please read about the consequence and the benefits. Good luck and just do not forget that there is hope.
It's not the paxil. I can assure you that. I don't know much about narcolepsy. I do know that a medication called zyprexa can give you myoclonic twitching. If you have ever been on that, then it may be due to that, because even after you stop taking it, in some people the twitching will never stop.
