Would a GP prescribe beta blockers for wedding day nerves?

Question:

Answers:
It would be very irresponsible of them, but if you find the right doctor, they will. Some doctors will give you beta blockers for fear of public speaking and things like that, so why not for a wedding?
No. Everyone has nerves on their wedding day---for whatever reason. Beta blockers are specifically for people with high blood pressure. If you don't have high blood pressure and you take it, you'll just pass out. No doctor is going to prescribe any for you for your wedding day. Don't be silly.

Just suck it up and deal with it---like the responsible adult you are supposed to be.
No, don't think so. there are other medications to help calm nerves. Why would you want to take a beta blocker?
Probably not. They are approved for the treatment of hypertension and heart disease. There are better medicines for anxiety.

I'm a physician.
Beta Blockers like Inderal can help with the physical manifestations of "stage fright." You will still feel nervous, but you won't sweat, your hands won't shake, your voice won't crack and it doesn't make you spaced out. If the bride or room were super nervous a doctor might prescribe beta blockers for the day. I took one dose of Inderal before a huge presentation I had to give in school and it worked for me. My doctor said he takes it too whenever he has to do public speaking.

Edited to add from New York Times: "For the last two decades, such use of beta blockers has generally met with approval from the medical establishment. ''Stage fright is a very specific and time-limited type of problem,'' said Michael Craig Miller, the editor of The Harvard Medical Letter. Dr. Miller, who is also an amateur pianist, noted that beta blockers are inexpensive and relatively safe, and that they affect only physical, not cognitive, anxiety. ''There's very little downside except whatever number you do on yourself about taking the drugs.''
If you google "stage fright" and "inderal" you will find a lot on it.
