Do we run a risk of DVT if we sit in a car for long periods of time?

Question:
Or is it due to cabin pressure when we fly?

Answers:
Its a mainly a combination of prolonged immobility and dehydration. There have been studies that suggest long car and coach journeys also increase the DVT risk. Actually potentially at least it is probably easier to walk about on a plane than either of these. Theoretically if you are not already on mini aspirin it might reduce risks, ut this does double any gastrointestinal bleeding risk and I don't think anyone is quite sure at this point, of the risk benefit maths.
Sitting in one position (especially cramped) does run the risk of DVT although it is not as high as when flying. It is always best to move your legs as often as possible.
i think only if you are sat for days at a time in the car, thats why if you are in hospital for more than 2 days they give you those sexy long socks to wear as it reduces the risk of DVT.
It costs the airlines money to maintain the air quality on their planes, the less they clean the air the less it costs them. The health authorities think it its probably a lot to do with stopping people smoking on flights that has caused the problem they don't clean the air as much now, Had you ever heard of DVT before they stopped people smoking on flights.
yes dvt are commonly cause from sitting too long and not completely circulating blood t through your legs. a common profession for these are over the road truck drivers, airplane pilots and professions where you are confined to a sitting position with no position changes for a long period of time. i personally take an aspirin before long road trips. it thins your blood and helps circulation.
Taking aspirin may reduce your risk of developing DVT. It is from immobility, not cabin pressure. One of the things you can do while on a long trip is to point your toes and "draw" the alphabet with your foot to get circulation going. Do this every hour or so with both feet. Taking walks on the plane to the rest room or just up & down the aisle will help too.
A friend of mine rode his motorcycle from Florida to Sturgis over a period of 4 days or so. When he came back, he had a huge, life threatening DVT in his leg. Those exercises will help deter that. Best wishes.
