Is morphine the last solution to terminally ill cancer patients?
Question:
Answers:
yes it ensures they feel no pain
No... Morphine is used pretty commonly in hospitals.
I've been given it after surgery, and after going to the ER for a bad burn. It's nice. I'd like to have sister morphine's comfort in my time of dying (two references to two awesome songs right there, stones and zeppelin)
Not every terminally ill patient is in pain, some just sleep away. However it is common for morphine, diamorphine or some of the newer opiate analogues to be given to terminal patients to ensure there final weeks or days are pain free.
No, diamorphine is the drug used for the terminally ill cancer patient. It's the synthetic form of heroin.
Morphine is used to kill all other kinds of pain.
To be honest after what happened to my dad and other family members yes I think it is. However, it does give some peace to the person suffering and on a very selfish note it gives peace to the people who are watching them die. My dad choose to remain at home and we had difficulty getting morphine, or diamorphine for him. once he was on the drip he did get some peace and we were able to share last days without him suffering
My dad recently died from cancer and he was receivng increased quantities of diamorphine before he passed away. That was the only time he was really in any pain thankfully, right towards the end. It's so painful to watch your loved one in such a state because they're so drugged up and barely able to know what's going on.
a terminally ill patient is going to die, thats what terminally ill means,if it is a painfull death then morphine is used.however heroin is the most powerfull pain killer on earth,it is just morphine refined to the next stage, because it has been abused and is very addictive, not to mention profitable,it is illegal, terminally ill patients cannot benefit from it.a limit can be reached with morphines effect, then it can become ineffective and the dose needs to be increased which can become lethal.heroin is stable.i believe holland allows it for terminally ill patients.
Whether you have cancer or not, if you are terminally ill and in pain, you will receive morphine. This helps you to just "slip away" into death, without feeling a thing.
depends how much pain the patient is in, in our hospital we have a "pain team" of nurse specialists who come in and assess the patients needs, remember morphine and diamorphine is a strong opiate, it has sedative side effects, if someone is terminal and still capable of decision making and reasonable thought other pain killers may be taken into account that dont effect the conciousness level of the person in question.
palliative care like any other care is based on holistic assessment, what may be suitable for one individual may not be for another.
Except in a very few cases where there is a morphine withdrawal problem that required a few more hours. In addition to the loss of pain, the physical results are a rapid shrinkage of the tumor masses. This site and its links will help u. For more details pls visit this site and its links
