Dear James Bond, It depends on what you feel is the obsessive thought? I say this because you mentioned Post Traumatic Stress Disorder or PTSD. PTSD is the result of a traumatic event or series of events happening that we get through/endure and survive, but later on the emotions, the fear surrounding the trauma come to the surface. Months or years later the person with PTSD find themselves crying for apparently no reason, "jumpy", and depressed. They feel as though they are going crazy, have nightmares, feel scared, have "flashbacks" surrounding the traumatic event, have"intrusive" thoughts (thoughts that just keep coming into your mind no matter how hard you try to forget them), and perhaps feel suicidal. The great news is that there is help for PTSD! There are medications that really help with the symptoms of PTSD, and along with counseling and/or a good support group, your PTSD is definitely something that you can get through and put behind you. As for obsessive thinking there is something called Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. OCD as it is commonly called can show itself in a number of different ways ie... obsessive neatness, the need to count things, washing your hands repeatedly, a fear of germs, hoarding, checking things for example repeatedly checking the stove to see if it is on or the door to see if it is locked, having to put things in a certain order or arrangement, and many, many other seemingly "weird" behaviors. Scientists are finding out that there is a biochemical/neurological reason for these symptoms. OCD as with PTSD is treatable with medication . Some people are helped with medication and therapy/counseling. Whatever you have James Bond, don't give up!! There is help, hope and a wonderful life available without the tyranny of OCD and PTSD.
