Shrimp Allergy?
Question:
Answers:
My Dad is allergic to shrimp but he can eat a few with out a reaction but if he eats more than 3 he swells up real bad. If you try eating any I would try only eating a couple at a time and keep the benadryl on hand. This is something you should really discuss with your Dr. But do not try to eat anything like shrimp salad or something that the shrimp could be marinating in because I guess it concentrates the allergen. My Dad tried one bite of shrimp salad once and blew up real bad. You really have to be careful with this.
it could be just the shrimp cuz i had the same thing but i tried eatting shrimp every 5 weeks
Maybe it's the type of shrimp or what the shrimp is made with. It could also be the time of year that you decide to eat shrimp in.
I am allergic to shrimp also although I can eat other shellfish too with no problem. Any person can have a severe allergic reaction to something they never had any reaction to before, therefore I do not reccomend eating the shrimp since you have already had a former of allergic reaction. My grandmother allowed me to have shrimp on a cruise because she thought it would be ok and I should try it again, however, I had an allergic reaction that caused an asthma attack. My mother explained to her although the elimination diet can prove successful in treating many food allergies such was not the case with shrimp. The doctor confirmed that to her. Additionally on a recent trip to Maine due to cross contamination I once again had an asthma attack as a result of an allergic reaction to shrimp. I like shrimp, but the risks are certainly not worth it. I have been lucky that the reaction and attack were controlled. I do not think you should eat the shrimp severity of reactions can increase.
Hives is an allergic reaction, not due to bad shrimp.
Bad shrimp causes nausea and vomiting, not hives.
If you have broken out twice now, I would advise against eating shrimp. You may have become sensitized to the shrimp and therefore, need less and less shrimp allergen to create a reaction. Worse case is that you start to swell and cannot breath. Not worth the shrimp in my book.
I think you are allergic. I can eat shrimp and crab fine when I was young. But one day, I ate it and I just threw all of it up and my mouth itch. lol So i GUESS i'm allergic to it. From that day on, I never eat those stuff again.
But yea, best answer is to ask your doctor.
Hope that helps. :)
