5 yr old boy with diahrea now for 6 days ?

Question:
ok so my son 5 yrs old has had diahrea since wed. took him to the ER because there was blood in it wed night. he had a fever 102.5 did stool cultures( were supposed to have results by today, still not in ) they did blood tests white cell was up. Infection.couldnt give him antibiotics because they had to wait for the culture to show what it is. he has immunodeficiancy problems. So the fever left basically still low grade from time to time. we have had days though he is pooping every 20- 30 min. Bad belly pains. then his belly feels better after he goes. still no appetite. Keeping him hydrated. not an issue. Been to the doctor. I just dont feel right because now day six shouldnt i see some improvement? I know most bugs last 3 to 5 days if not 24 hours. He will seem fine then just have a major attack of belly pains and need a bathroom NOW. I have tried to stay home. somedays unavoidable. what can i do for him or should do for him to help? Docs keep saying wait it out?? Reasonable?

Answers:
Well first the drs are being irresponsible. If he has an iimunodeficancy, in the form of an autoimmune disorder, or otherwise, and this has not been resolved, he should be hospitalized at this point. As a parent I would be forcing ther hand, and demanding it. No child should be going through that. escpeically one with a compromised immune system. I am an adult with one, and my dr's wouldnt do that to me. As a mom, you need to speak up, even yell a bit if need be. if he is at least drinking or using pedialyte thats good, but if just keeps coming back out it is not neccisarily doing much good.

Though most of the fever is gone, still having some off and onn shows signs of continuing infection, and inability of his body to heal itself. He needs medical intervention, IV antibiotics, fluids and possibly feeding. Pooping every 20-30 minutes for 24 hours van be ok, food poisening or 24 hour flu, this has gone way past that. Call the drs emergancy service, tell them NO CHANGE WE CAN NOT WAIT IT OUT. GET HIM ADMITTED NOW. Please learn tpo stand up to the doctors for you and your children. As a person chronically ill, it took some time to learn how, but belive me, in an emergancy or ongoing medical crisis, it is nessacary. he also needs his appendix checked. That is somthing that crossed my mind when I read this. If it is appendisitis and it has burst, he can die if it is not removed. just from the burst of pain you are talking about, it sounds possible.

Stand up and speak for the boy and you and both your right to decent medical care
Good Luck
Chris
Sounds like a viral infection in his stomach.
I suggest getting a second opinion.

While diarrhea is reasonably common, you CAN die from it. Make sure he gets enough fluids, juices, etc.
THIS COULD BE SEROUS
pains around the tummy, and belly ache with vomiting?

if theres vomiting and diareer, it could be appendixtus

this is where the appendix becomes infmaed and has to be taken out, if the appendix burst! it could be fatel

but on the good side, chances are that your 5 year old son just has a very long bug in his tummy and his young body is doing everything it can to kill it!

dont worry ime sure his body is killing it right now as i typed this message!

sorry to give u such a scary start to this answer... infact now i dont think it is appendixtus... chances are low if it was that.
Take him to another doctor. Go to the best facility in your city and one that specializes in children. If my son was going through this I would be nuts. My heart and prayers go out to you. Take him to a children's hospital's emergency room.
I'd get a second opinion. He's much too little to have that for 5 days now with no relief. If you don't, no one else will.
I think the drs are right only because my son just went thru a bout of diarehha and it was longer than 6 days. the blood could just be that he is dried out inside, who knows. it seems it could be a stomach virus. if there is something wrong the drs will figure it out. I pray he is fine for you.
You tell these doctors to treat him as if he has a bacterial infection (food poisoning). Blood in stool is a concern, and can indicate a parasite.
Secondly, the issue with his bottom hurting, it is inflamed from going so much that it is burning- you may want to get a rubber glove and put some hemorrhoid cream on him daily to shrink inflammation. Doctors are like drivers, just because they have a license doesn't mean they are all good drivers!!
Second opinion, and get antibiotics of some kind- even request an x-ray- a viral infection could last this long but by now improvement should be starting to show.
Give him white rice with some carrots- water, no juices-no sodas, keep his diet bland.
His body is trying to fight this, whatever it is which is why the fever and diarrhea.
Many hugs to you and your poor little guy- I am so sorry- some of these doctors are such idiots- always get a second opinion. even a 3rd if need be, you know your child more than anyone else, and love him more than anyone else-
go to doc, or another, get him admitted to hosp if you can, this isnt right. what is he eating? also put vasaline on the bum. feels squishy icky, but will give relief.. also tucks pads with which hazels will sooth the anus... sometimes docs are dumb... your the mom and you know something isnt right,,, get aggressive , get treatmant...somtimes children get sick with what most think only effects adults... so they dont look for sign or symptoms...sit down, think back, write everything down you can remember. what med, what foods, bowel habits too... go to new doc with this paper in hand so you dont forget anything.. which can happen when in a pediatricians office when ther are a dozen other sick kids... GET AGGRESSIVE AND FIGHT FOR YOUR CHILD!!!!!!!!!
