Has anyone heard of benzene poisoning?

Question:
This is a topic i found interesting.

Answers:
Yes.

Benzene is a solvent and a very toxic one at that. Exposure can happen a number of ways, skin contact and respiratory contact are the two main ones.

Exposure can be fatal. However, it can also be treated.

For more specifics, look in a MSDS. It will tell you all about it. If a benzene spill occurs, a hazmat team usually has to clean it up. Full protective gear (a bunny suit) is needed, including respiratory masks (SCOT packs).

I have not heard about it till now. Some side effects occur after inhalation.

Breathing high levels of benzene can result in death, while low levels can cause drowsiness, dizziness, rapid heart rate, headaches, tremors, confusion, and unconsciousness. Eating or drinking foods containing high levels of benzene can cause vomiting, irritation of the stomach, dizziness, sleepiness, convulsions, rapid heart rate, and death.
Strangely, jerry gets it on an episode of Seinfeld. The episode is The Slicer.
