Are medical doctors allowed to write for pain meds in wis?

Question:
i was getting methadone from my family doctor every month for pain. now i was told i need to go to pain management. is there a new law now that medical doc's cannot give pain meds?

Answers:
Your regular doc can write it but he wants you to see a pain management doc as this is all they deal with PAIN CONTROL day in and day out. He probably feels your treatment is best handled by someone who specializes in pain which is why you are being referred to a specialist.
The goal is for you to not be on long-term narcotics, as they can be addictive and cause other problems. The pain management is to help you find other ways to ease your physical pain. Your doctor can still prescribe narcotic pain medications, but most docs do not like to have a patient on long-term narcotics. The longer you are on these drugs, the more dangerous they become.
