Can I get permanent scarring from cutting myself very lightly with a normal BIC razor?

Question:
Well I was in the shower and I was pretty angry, and this only the second time I've self harmed in my life. Anyway, I just basically made a lot of scratches on my skin with the BIC razor. The cuts aren't deep at all, just like little scratches all over my arms. But they're quite red and inflamed =l. Will I get permanent scarring? How long will it take for them to go away? [[My friend told me a week at the most..]] I learnt a lesson from it. I learnt that it doesn't make me feel better and I'm not going to do it again.

Answers:
You can get a scar from any kind of injury, but if you keep it clean you will likely not get a scar from these cuts. The fact that is red and inflamed can mean that is infected - clean it well and make sure to use an antibacterial cream (neosporin).

Self-injury is a complicated thing, and it is best if you understand it. You may say that it doesn't make you feel better and you're not going to do it, but honestly, if it's the second time you've done it, you probably won't keep that promise. Please read up on it a bit - it helped me to understand why I do/did it and how it is not a suicidal cry nor something terribly damaging. The reasons we do it are, however, and that's why you should seek help. If you are getting to the point of anger and frustration that the only way to express your emotions is to injure yourself, then you need to learn to cope and find a better outlet.

Cutting leaves scars, but from what you described it doesnt sound like you broke the skin, so I dont think youll have any problems with scaring. You should prolly clean them though, if your angry again, use rubbing alcohol, it burns. Enjoy
The cuts will probably not from scars unless you scar easily, but I am more concerned about your overall well being. I think you should talk to a therapist about your self harming tendencies. Even if you feel it is minor, it could develop into a very serious problem. Please go get help, there is nothing so bad that it is worth hurting yourself.
dude, ive cut alot before in the past. when they heal they turn into these marks that look alot like scars and their gonna be there for a few days or maybe even weeks. i thought theyd be there for the rest of my life and i regretted it more than anything else. but after a while they went away and the cuts were really deep. so if what you said about them being just scratches is true, then theylle go away in a few days. dont worry about it theyl go away
Good for you! I used to be a cutter and cut quite frequently, and I've learned the same lesson you have, just not soon enough. Anyway, I cant really tell. Unless you have really sensitive skin, it will probably scar, but be gone by a month. Use something like Neosporn for it to heal faster.
Any cuts I've ever gotten like that don't leave scars. They are like any other cuts...even most deep cuts don't leave scars. You'll be OK in a week or so. Just be sure to let them heal naturally...no band-aids or things to prevent them from getting fresh air and light. If you cover them with something like a band-aid, they will just stay longer and get worse, really. I'm glad you learned a lesson from it! =( I really hope you don't try to harm yourself in any other way!
I used to cut a lot and i have very small scars they are not noticeable and if you honestly feel that you won't do it again you are probably not in much danger. I never saw a counsellor and i was fine. I would say were a long sleeve shirt for a few days and keep the cuts clean with peroxide.
good luck
the red stuff will go away pretty fast but if its deep enogh, then it can leave a slight scar, just don't pick at it. i've had tiny little cuts and i messed with it and there scars now.
