Slight darkening of lips.?

Question:
My daughter aged 13 has recently developed a slight darkening of the lips - right in the middle of the lower lip. She does not suffer - there is no pain, except that esthetically it seems odd. Could you possibly indicate the possible cause and remedy.

Thanks

Answers:
I would take her to a dermatologist who specialized in skin cancer. Not to scare you, but I have had a freckle on my upper lip all my life and every year when I go in my doc asks again. He has told me that is a very common place to get skin cancer.

If it is not bleeding, scabbing, or hurting her and it is skin cancer you have caught it early when the procedure to cure is easy. I hope it is just a freckle like mine though. My dad used to tell me that was so the boys would know where to kiss me.
