What could be blocking my nostrils?
Question:
Several years ago someone mentioned it possibly being a build up of extra cartilage and that I would have to go to a doctor and have it surgically removed. I have grown sick and tired of this feeling so I had been considering going to a doctor lately and figured I would find out if there could be other possible causes other than cartilage so I can go to the doctor prepared to discuss the causes.
I can't think of any other reasons and I know it's not just a sinus infection since I've had it for at least eight years and have no pain or other discomforts.
Answers:
It sounds like a nasal polyps (a minor growth of the mucus membrane, or adenoids. This can be treated with steroids or removed easily with a minor surgical procedure, with minimum discomfort. They can always grow back again, but the doctor will tell you some preventative methods, such as rinsing your nose out every now and then with a solution.
It could also be caused by adenoids, which are at the back of your throat, near your tonsils. These swell up when you are fighting infection and sometimes get infected themselves. This is unlikely, as they would go down after you had successfully faught off the infection. They usually only effect children. So it is probably the polyps
