different facilities have different protocols is all.
Make sense to me to wait one year and retest yourself . I guess thats what the others should have told you. Cant blame the people that told you to stop , sometimes they just follow the policy . Good Luck !!
The FDA (Food & Drug Administration) provides regulations for blood donors. Blood banks must operate within these regulations.
To my knowledge, the actual act of being raped does not result in a deferral. The definition of "rape", especially if it involves date rape, may vary from individual to individual. However, if raped by an unknown person, there may be exposure to bloodborne diseases and the blood bank may require a one-year deferral. In other words, being raped is not the cause for deferral; potential exposure to bloodborne pathogens is the cause.
Here is a very good site for the Red Cross Guidelines: http://www.redcross.org/services/biomed/...
The very bottom line: your blood will be given to someone who is sick. This person may be critically ill. If there is any possibility of exposure to a bloodborne pathogen, it wiser to err on the side of caution.
Another fact on blood donation: if you are paid for your donation (i.e., a plasma center), this blood is not transfused into human beings. It is sold to research companies and drug manufactureres. They often have their own "extra" guidelines.
