Are peanuts actually beans?
Question:
Answers:
Yes, it is true. Biologically speaking, peanuts are not nuts because they do not grow on trees above ground. They are part of the legume family, so people who are allergic to nuts will not necessarily be allergic to peanuts, and people with a peanut allergy may well be able to eat other nuts. People with peanut allergies also are not usually allergic to other types of legumes. The allergen responsible for the peanut allergy is not present in other types of legumes. There is a theory that it is the roasting of the peanuts which causes the greater proportion of peanut allergies in North America, than compared to other cultures that also eat lots of peanuts. In most other places the peanuts are not roasted but are boiled or cooked in other ways, and peanut allergies are rare. Most beans are also cooked by boiling, rather than roasting, which may also explain why peanut allergies are not associated with allergies to other kinds of legumes.
no. peanut is a nut.. they may have the same size, form. etc but they can never be in the family of beans. lol
Peanuts are legumes.Individuals with peanut allergies may not necessarilly be allergic to other nuts, since peanuts are legumes.
Peanut allergies are rare in places like China and India, which leads a lot of people to believe that it has something to do with the way we process them in the US.
Yes, peanuts are in the same family as plants like beans. In fact, they are not related to nuts in the slightest. As far as allergies go, I don't think that they are close enough related to the beans that we normally eat for the allergic reaction to be the same.
yes because they are shelled, and its possible but most people i know who are allergic to peanuts can still eat green beans, odd hugh
