I have a big bright red circle on my lower right calf. What is it?

Question:
It started out as an itch, and I took a look moments later, finding a light red area. Five hours later I suddenly discovered that there was a circle 1.5in in diameter in that area. There is no lump or difference in texture. The troubling thing is that it's a bright, lipstick red that looked dangerous. Anyone has any idea what it could be? Thanx.

Answers:
There is nowhere near enough to make a reliable diagnosis. Age and any other past history would perhaps have been useful, also a picture,( one or two questioners have managed to divert to pictures, probably to the persons own website. )
You really will have to get your GP to look at it on Monday, I could list a dozen possibilities, however I will mention a few likely candidates.

An allergic response to an insect bite
An area of cellulitis
Erythema nodosum - especially likely if the area is tender, or you have had a recent sore throat.
It sounds like psoriasis, which is a hereditary skin condition. This kind of thing comes and goes with time. The skin in that area will think it is damaged and begins to rapidly regenerate, causing those itchy circles. Why not do an online search and compare your symptom with the images of psoriasis that you find?
i think it might be a ring worm deff get that cheaked ok
You will have to see a Doctor- this seems like a classic sign of ringworm- No, there is not an actual worm in there, but this is a fungal infection of the skin. You will need to get a prescription antiboitic cream for treatment. It will go away and not leave a scar. If you have pets, you may have gotten it from them, and they should be treated also so you wont get it again. From an RN-
Lyme disease suspected.
Lyme disease is a tick-transmitted infection caused by Borrelia burgdorferi. Symptoms include an erythema migrans rash, which may be followed weeks to months later by neurologic, cardiac, or joint abnormalities. Diagnosis is primarily clinical, but acute and convalescent antibody titers may be helpful. Treatment is with antibiotics such as doxycycline or, for serious infections, ceftriaxone.
Consult a Dermatologist.
Please see the web pages for more details and images on Lyme disease.
You could have a skin condition has any of your family have that before? Go see a dermatalogist, i dont think it could be ring worm because ring worm is bumps in a circle.
