Answers:
How old is your daughter? Is the climate you are in warm? Do you keep it warm in the house? Do you tend to over dress your daughter? Sometimes, we as adults feel "chilly" and tend to "overdress" our children, this can cause fevers. If the lab work came back "normal", then she should not be taking the antibiotics, (as someone said above) antibiotics are for bacterial infections, they will not work on a viral infection. Stop the antibiotics, if you haven't already.
Try giving your daughter childrens Tylenol then when the next dose is due (4 to 6 hours) give childrens Motrin this is something that the doctors I work for recommend to reduce fevers. Switching the medications seems to work on fevers better than just giving a child one medication as a fever reducer.
If she is acting fine, and eating OK, then I would not worry too much. Viral infections can last from 7 days to 3 weeks. Make sure you give her plenty of fluids. Don't "overdress" her, let her run around the house in just her panties, if she feels like it (This will keep her cool). You can also, wipe her body with a "cool" (not cold) rag. Do this often throughout the day (this helps bring down a fever).
If the fever gets above 104, or if your daughter has a change in mood or gets lethargic then take her to the ER, right away. If the fever has not subsided in 5-7 more days, take your daughter to an Urgent Care Clinic or to another Pediatrition. Save the ER for True Emergencies.
Good Luck, hope your daughter's fever goes away without complication, and does so soon! As a Mother, I understand your concern!
Well her fever should be gone by now. I would take her back to the Dr. Obviously there is something wrong. When someone has a fever its the bodys way of fighting off an infection of some sort. Take her back asap. Hope your daughter feels better soon. Take Care
If all of those medications are antibiotics, they will have no effect on a viral infection. Antibiotics are for bacterial infections. Viral infections generally have to be allowed to run their course, with medications given for the relief of symptoms, like tylenol to reduce the fever. How old is she? If she is behaving and eating normally, it doesn't sound that serious, but I would call the doc back and tell her that the fever is still there.
I have a 4 year old and a baby that just turned 1. We have been to a lot of different doctors trying to find one we agree with. You should call the doctor right now and if he doen't give you advice that makes you feel better and more in control of the situation or if you still have that bad mom feeling; take her to the hospital er. If it is nothing, at least you have a second opinion and you know your baby is ok. Personally, I would also have a serious talk with her doctor if she had a fever all that time and he showed that little concern.
That is a long time for a fever from a virus. As a mom, I have not had a problem with an extended fever since I dealt with measles in my oldest child. He never developed immunity from his vaccination and had the common measles twice, both times with a high fever. This was an inherited trait from his father who also experienced the same thing as a child.
You don't mention any other symptoms other then the fever. Was there any pain, cough, rash, discomfort of any kind with the fever?
Paracetamol, I believe is the same as acetaminophen, she should be fine if you are careful only to use the dosage that is right for her weight. I know our doctor told us only to give acetaminophen when the fever is more then 101. I hope the antibiotics clears up what ever this is soon.
I am sure you are worn out. It can be very stressful to have a sick child, not just from lack of sleep but on your nerves too.
Take her to the Emergency Room at CHop at a decent hour.
When the children get fever, we should avoid antibiotic for one or two days. But after that doctor should check the blood test and if it is found to be viral fewer then doctor should suggest antibiotic. With the right antibiotic, the fever should stop within 5 to 6 days maximum. If it exceeds the same then, you should suspect something else. You can go for another blood test or consult some other doctor.
Did you give the medicine prescribed for the fever regularly?
If the doc has advised you to give her the medicine after a certain time gap i.e for e.g after every 4 hours, then please continue doing so for some days even when there is no fever. If convenient get her admitted in hospital for a day or so where she is under complete supervision of the doctors.
I am advising you this b'coz just 2 days back i did the same to my 3 yr old daughter who was suffering the same way like your daughter & now the cold is slightly there but fever has gone completely.
