Why does rubbing ice on hives or bug bites help the itching lessen?

Question:
it actually works! im doing it right now, but how come it helps?

Answers:
Cold slows things down, and obviously the opposite is hot, which makes things go fast. So you apply cold ice to a bite, it slows down the action of the bite to your body, and slows the reaction of your immune system, and your nerves around that area also send signals slower to the brain.
