It could be something serious, but it could also NOT be serious. If the doctor gave you antibiotics, and they didn't help, that is a red flag for sure. For now, monitor the lump and keep a log of any other unusual symptoms you may have. Any night sweats? Itching? Weight loss? Hopefully, it will not be anything serious.

Most likely a swolllen gland, nothing serious. You might have an infection though, go to a doctor.
it's probably just a benine sist if they weren't that worried about it, they can lance it and get it out.
Well, has it changed in size? Does it hurt? It could just be an over sized gland...or it could be something more. Keep an eye on it and if you notice it changing, tell your mom.
First of all, how can any respectable doctor tell you they do not know and sent you on your way ? A new doctor is in order. It maybe a gland or lymph node. Both tend to appear when there is an infection present.

First of all, if your doctor is telling you they don't know what it is and to just wait - you need to go to a different doctor and get a second opinion. If it's a lump near or on your thyroid gland - they'll want to run some tests to rule out cancer. I'm sure you have nothing to worry about, as lumps can pop up from calcium buildup etc. But it doesn't hurt to get it checked.
Go to another doctor. Could be something to do with the endocrine glands. Need another opinion. Try a Patient First clinic, they usually have some pretty savvy people there. They can lead you in the right direction. Haven't been running a fever I hope?
My son has a lumo on his neck acouple of them actually I brought him to the doctor and they said there limpnodes, Then again my science teacher had one on his neck also he always said he hopes its not cancerous, you could always have your b/f or g/f stab it with a needle and suck whatevers in there out of your neck good luck
Don't get all worried. I had a lump on my leg once and it was just a cyst. I got a lump on my eyelid and it was just a cyst. Found another lump and they said it was a fat mass.
Don't get all upset until you know what it is. It's very hard but it's good advice. Wait your time and go back. You may just have to take pills for it to go away, that's what they did for my cyst on my leg.

Did the Doctor give you anything? or just touched it, and that's it? Do you think is bigger? smaller? does it hurt? is it on the far side or side from the center?
If it doesn't go away, really you need to get it removed, even if it's just a lump of fat or whatever, they still need to do the biposy and send it to Pathology.
You need to tell the Doctor that it's getting painful and you need to exagerate, otherwise they won't do anything, but to tell you "keep an eye".
I knew about a lump in the center of the neck and it was fat but guess what? they said it was very close to the thyroid, and could have been having "roots" and get the thyroid involved.
See? it needs to be removed......
It could be an enlarged lymph node, in which case it will just go away.
Well if it doesn't go away after a couple weeks, you may want to see your doctor.
