To those of you with genital herpes type 1?

Question:
How often do you get outbreaks? And how bad / what are the symptoms when you do get one?

I've had it for two years, in the last year I've had about 6 outbreaks. OK, they are practically unnoticeable, but I am curious about others, because I was told when I got it 50% of people with genital hsv1 never get another outbreak. I guess I must just be unlucky. My sister didn't get one for six years after her primary.

Just curious about how others are finding it, I suppose.

Answers:
I have had genital herpes caused by HSV1 for 6+ years.

The first year I had the virus I had about 4 outbreaks. The year after I had one and the year after that I also had one outbreak. I've been outbreak free now for about 2 and 1/2 years.

My first outbreak was HORRIBLE. I missed two days of work and school because I could hardly sit or walk. My doctor prescribed me 3 different antiviral medications and Vicodin for the pain.

Some people just get more outbreaks then others. You might have more stress in your life, or you might be eating or doing certain activities that are causing you to have more outbreaks. Herpes affects every person differently. Take care!
I have HSV-1 and HSV-2... I actually get outbreaks all the time. Everyone is different. I dont get the coldsores everyone talks about, I get a very sore throat.. it kinda feels like strep. Like I said everyone is different.
