So sorry about your husband.Sometimes when the end is near their body shuts down and they loose their appetite.Encourage him to eat whatever he likes,but don't get panicky is he doesn't eat.Make sure his stoma is well hydrated with moist gauze,have him rinse his mouth with an alcohol free product and ask the doctor if he can sign him up with hospice.The hospice nurses come to you and help with a lot of issues, e.g. pain,emotional support and nutrition.

Your doctor can prescribe things like Remeron and/or Megace to improve his appetite.
You can make your own cheaper (but just as good) version of Ensure by mixing packets of Carnation Instant Breakfast (or the store brand) with 8 ounces of whole milk. Adding a scrambled (cooked) egg and blending it makes it even better. Just make sure he can swallow it before giving it to him.

He had lung cancer, they removed part of his lung and slammed him with chemo.
His appetite totally disappeared, he wouldn't drink juice, water, nothing. He had to go back to the hospital, a couple times until it got straightened out.

I may get in trouble for saying this but remember your question about the sealions or I forgot the animal but you asked if we thought they smoked seaweed well the same applies in this situation when people do that they get an appitite trust me I work in a hospital and people with aids do it and they live a lot longer cause they are eating and keeping up strength and lots of prayers
