Having heart palpitations, what could it be?
Question:
Answers:
Sugar in many forms.
If you drink a lot of pop or consume a lot of caffeine on general (coffee's a major one) it can cause heart palpitations. Try cutting out as much caffeine as is possible and see if the problem resolves. If the palpitations still occur, start an exercise routine. nothing big, walk for a few minutes a day. Drink more water and stop smoking if you do. If palpitations still exist then seek medical attention. Emergency service in unnecessary unless pain tingling or numbness develop. An appointment with your primary care physician should suffice. Devices such as a doppler or other cardiac monitor will most likely be used and are nothing to be apprehensive over.
I had this same thing a while ago. It totally freaked me out. I finally ended up in the emergency room and they hooked me up to a heart monitor. Mine was what is called preatrial contractions. My heart was actually throwing in extra beats. It's probably not serious, but you should go to a dr. and get things checked out, especially if you're a male over 40. Others on here are right though, it can be caused by too much sugar, caffeine or other substances.
Your heart fluttering could be a number of things like mirtal valve prolapse which is more common in younger females of a cardiac arrhythmia. I would go see your doctor who will more than likely recommend that you go see a cardialogist and have a few test done. You will probably have a holter monitor to see if it is an arrythmia and an echocardiogram to see f it might be something with the heart itself. Most times its nothing. Don't be too alarmed it could also just be stress. But please go see your doctor asap.
