My 3 year old and shingles?
Question:
Answers:
Shingles is caused by the virus herpes zoster. It is the same virus that causes chicken pox. If someone who has not had chicken pox is exposed to someone who has shingles, it is likely that they will contract chicken pox. Basically, what I'm saying is that your daughter probably has the chicken pox.
Has she had the chicken pox? If not then that is more then likely what it is.
Shingles occurs only after infection with the varicella (chickenpox) virus. The virus "retreats" to the nerves at the base of your spine and may reactivate itself along the path of those nerves, causing blistering and pain.

If your three-year-old has had chickenpox, she is not likely to get shingles from this woman. If she has NOT had chickenpox and has NOT been vaccinated, she is likely to get chickenpox from this woman.

If you have any concerns regarding your daughter's skin condition, please take her to a pediatrician. It is better to be thought of as a "paranoid mom" than to risk your daughter's health.
