Has anyone been diagnosed with calcification on breast tissue? Is it related to cancer?
Question:
Answers:
Calcifications in the breast tissue can either be macrocalcifications or microcalcifications. Of the two, the microcalcifications are more suggestive of cancer, since they are associated with rapidly dividing cells.
It isn't clear what age your mother is or what surgery she is having. Usually, the doctor will try to do a core biopsy using a biopsy gun, which can be uncomfortable, but people get through it, or a lumpectomy. Neither of these is usually too painful or dangerous. Why do it? My motto is: when in doubt, have it out.
The important thing is that if she does have cancer, this is a long road for her to walk alone. This can be an opportunity to support your mother however you can. For example, if you are a religious person, offer her your prayers and ask those who share your faith to pray for her. Good luck, and I will be thinking of you both!
It's very common and usually non-cancerous. But, of course, once in a great while, it can indicate cancer. If your mother didn't say cancer, then I would believe that she just has a normal calcification.
