What is Hepitis c?

Question:
What is hepitis c and what are the effects

Answers:
hep c is a disease that affects the liver. it is contracted by blood to blood contact, sharing needles, razors etc. there is a very small chance of passing it sexually. i know this because i have hep c and my doctor told me. though there may not be a cure there is treatment. hep c causes liver damage: fibrosis of the liver, cirrosis of the liver, liver cancer and liver failure. though it usually can take years before you get sick. i have been on two treatments and finally my viral load is not detectable, though i do have stage 2 liver damage (fibrosis). i have had hep c for about 4 years. the best thing to do is talk to your doctor.

It's a blood born virus that attacks your liver.

You get it by blood to blood contact (sharing drug needles, infected tattoo needle, unsafe sex, etc.)

It is the leading cause of liver transplant in the US.
it is a virus where your liver becomes inflamed and loses its ability to function properly, It is not and I repeat not transmitted thru sexual contact. It is transmitted thru contaminated blood by way of blood transfusions or contaminated needles. as of now there is no cure for this type of hepatitis.
Jayjay--there are more than five kinds of Hepatitis; unfortunately, Hep-C can be deadly. It took me over a year to resolve (have my body make three different antibodies) a bout with Hep-B.
If you have been diagnosed with this, follow your doctor's orders and educate yourself (web research!) Do not use alcohol or any drugs that haven't been prescribed by your doctor. Let any other doctors/dentists know your diagnosis. Practice safe sex--no oral sex and no French kissing (it can be passed through saliva). Be hypervigilant about handwashing like doctors and nurses: don't touch the knobs with your hands. For other people's safety, you might want to use a hand sanitizer and stay away from public sinks--I didn't know that Hep-B virus can live over a week, so if you had an open cut on your hand, touched the public sink, it could be passed on to the next person who uses that sink. Scary stuff, but if you take care of yourself (or share this with whoever has it), follow the doctor's orders, be mindful of the risk you may pose to others, and be patient (you will have good days and horrible days), this disease can be managed. A little healing energy your way. PS: Quagmire is wrong about the sexual contact part, especially if you have anal sex or engage in "fisting" or like taking "golden showers." Hep-C at one time was the leading transmittable disease among gay men.
