Bone Marrow infection?

Question:
My father had undergone a hip joint replacement. He has been diagnosed as having infection within bone. He was advised C Reactive Protein Test, based on which diagnosis was made by the doctor. This infection was contracted during operation. He is prescribed with Linezolid 600 mg twice a day 10 days. How good is Linezolid for such infections?
Doctor suggested if antibiotic is not able to help, then he may have to be operated for replacing the prosthesis.
My father has COPD and putting him on Anasthesia is a risk. Also doctor says that he may have to be operated twice once to remove the prosthesis&put antibiotics&then after some days, put a new prosthesis. His X-Ray report says:"Mild reduction in hip joint spaces. Otherwise Pelvic girdle bones appear normal in morphology. No erosion or osteolytic area. Both sacroiliac joints are unremarkable. Soft tissue planes are well maintained. "
Is there any other way to deal with this symptom so that the operation can be avoided? Please help !
