Question:
I am 23 years old. When I was 16, I had an appendectomy. When I was 18, I had surgery for three bowel obstructions (at the same time). I was in the hospital for 3 weeks. As a result, I have (ugly) scars all over my stomach. One is the average scar from an appendectomy and the other goes from my belly button all the way down to right above my panty line. At the bottom I have a weird round hard scar. A doctor told me the bowel obstruction was caused by the scar tissue from the appendectomy.
We are planning to have a child within the next 6 months or year, and I am really worried about all the scar tissue or "adhesions" I probably have.
I am scared that I will have an awful pregnancy and childbirth and I am wondering if we should adopt instead. I am worried that a c-section would be necessary, but would complicate my life because of the additional scar tissue it would create.
I know adhesions cause bowel obstructions, but can surgery from bowel obstructions cause adhesions?
Answers:
Absolutely. You can always ask your doctor if there are any imaging tests that can be done to see the extent of the scar tissue internally.
