Getting Over A Stomach Virus And Now My Sister Has It Can I Get It Again?

Question:
I am still getting over it. I threw up and she threw up, but she has diaraha and I did not. Could she have something else? And if so could I get it all over again? And how could I avoid it if so?

Answers:
If she has the same strain of stomach virus as you had, then no you can't catch it back. It is like a cold or chicken pox or even the flu. As you are getting over the condition whether it be cold or flu or chicken pox or other, your body has made antibodies to fight it and get rid of it. So if someone else around you has it, you can't get it again as you body has the antibodies to fight it. That is why it is very rare for someone to get the chicken pox twice.

The only problem is, if the other person has a different stain of the virus to you, then yes you could catch it. It may not be as severe as the first time as your body has some antibodies that will help fight it off.

Remember, antibiotics will not help a virus, only a bacterial infection. Drink plenty of water and try not to have too much solid food. Stick to a liquid of soft foods diet until you get over it.

Hope this helps and that you and your sister are feeling better soon!
Have a great day/night.

if u guys maybe drink from the same glass,or if u eat something from her. otherwise i dont think so. try not to be too close to hr.
i don't think so. if it is the same germ, your body would have built up immunity to it by now.
I don't think so as long as it's the same virus, which it probably is if you live together or are close. Once your body fights a specific virus, it's built up antibodies against it. Also, just because your sister got diarrhea and you didn't probably is because her body is reacting differently to the virus. You may still get diarrhea. Now cold viruses on the other hand tend to mutate, that's why it seems like families "pass it back and forth".
yes you can get it again, it doesn't matter if you have had it before, viruses mutate and change all the time, thats why there is no cure for sicknesses caused by viruses
