2nd degree burn on arm?

Question:
i burned my arm in an accident (2nd degree)...a couple weeks ago.and the pinknes is already strating to fade considerably...

my concern however is that there is gonna be white scars...

are these permanent?? do i need surgery?? or will they go away on their own in a couple months?

thanks...

Answers:
Sounds like it is healing just right. Don't get it in the 'sun' if you can help it, that will discolor it - or not help the healing if say it gets red again or tan -

Try applying some pure vitamin e to it at night before bed.
Keeping it as clean as you can and if you are healthy it should take about 6-12 months to return to normal -
If it doesn't bring it up to your MD and ask what he'd suggest.
2nd degree burns do not require surgery but if they do scar you might want to ask a doctor if they can do anything about it.
I'm sorry to say that they wont. A couple of years ago, I burned myself with fireworks (2nd degree) on my index finger. Today, there is a little pink/red spot right where it happened and it never went away. It doesn't hurt but it doesn't look the greatest. Dont worry about it. Everyone has permanent scars.
Scarring from a burn of that degree is not uncommon but again not definite. It is hard without seeing the wound to make that determination but I would recommend keeping the area moist with skin conditioners until you have your next doctors appt. so you may ask him/her.
Good luck to you..and oh...
(can I have my cookie now? >grin<
2nd degree burns do not require sx.. however, everyone's skin is different to some degree, so with that being said, you may have considerable scarring and or not have scarring AT ALL!
I had one on my shoulder, and yes they will be very light if you have done everything helpful when tending your burn, if not, they can't and won't get too awful dark so i wouldn't worry to much about it, there isn't anything you can do except at home scar remedies.
goal of treatment for second-degree burns is to reduce pain and prevent infection.

Never apply butter, oils, or burn ointments. They make it more difficult for the burn to heal and can actually make the burn worse because the heat can’t escape

If your doctor thinks there will be a great deal of scarring, he or she may recommend a skin graft, where a piece of healthy skin is taken from an unburned area of the body and transplanted to the burned area. This is called an autograft.
