Strep, Virus, will antibiotics help? PLEASE OPEN, AND HELP.?

Question:
So, here are my symptoms:
-very swollen lymphnodes
-enlarged/swollen tonsels
-white patchs or puss maybe on tonsels and maybe throat (cant tell)
-slight fever

My friend who I'm with everyday, was diagnosed with strep. I started to feel bad a little while after we hung out, and I was drinking after her, and her after me, etc. We share everything.

Anyways, she got antibiotics for her strep.
I'm almost positive I have strep but my doctor did the swab test and it came up negative. HOWEVER, they have done this before where it comes up negative and I recieve a phone call saying that after they sent it to the big lab, it actually was strep. Im afraid thats what gonna happen this time.

HERES MY QUESTION: I have an extremely big event tomorow that I've had planned for months and months. Should I take one of my friends antibiotics before I go so I can feel better, or would this be dangerous?

Answers:
It's just useless to take antibiotics for one or two days and it can be dangerous because it causes resistant bacteria to multiply. Probably your doctor gave you a "quick strep" test, and then the cultures sent out to the other lab will take longer and be more accurate. When I was a teenager (40 years ago) I had strep and it was like that. They had to give me long term antibiotics until I could get out my tonsils.

I'm going to make a recommendation that you'll probably find gross, but It should give you some relief. Gargle with warm salty water and throw it towards the back of your throat. It will make you gag a bit, but just spit the water out. Do not swallow it. You can also take a Q-tip and try to knock those white colonies off your tonsils. Then rinse and gargle once more with warm salty water and then tap water.. Of course it might be a viral infection, but if it goes on for more than a week go back to your doctor and insist on a new strep test and get checked for Mononucleosis if the lymph nodes under your armpits get swollen. Do not take aspirin, but stick with Tylenol, because it could increase your chances of getting rheumatic fever (which can cause heart arrhythmias).
never take someone elses meds, you could have a reaction, they may not work for you and it makes your friend short on her meds. It probably is strep, the rapid strep doesn't always show up in some people. If you go to the doctor before your event you can't just get an antibiotic injection (usually penacillin) and you will feel a hundred times better by the end of the day. Either way you need meds, leaving strep un treated can cause serious problems for your kidneys and heart.
If you have a virus infection an antibiotic WILL NOT help. Antibiotics are effective against bacteria, not a virus.

You sound like you are in the infectious stage. If you go to your big event you'll most likely give an unwelcome present to the others there: your infection.

Stay home till you are better, not till you feel better.
Yes, it's dangerous to take someone else's prescription because the medication is measured in the amounts for that person's benefits which if you take it, you could overdose and it'll only make matter's worse or it won't the right amount and it will do little or nothing at all.

With plenty of rest, fluids and a prescription of your own antibiotics, unfortunately in your case, you'll be better in a few days or more.
